Don't measure more, measure better.
Managing employee performance involves more than an annual appraisal. A thorough understanding of the cycle of performance management, from clarifying high-level strategic goals through performance planning, tracking, feedback, and appraisal can significantly enhance your organization's effectiveness.
As organizations increasingly emphasize accountability and performance results, measurement is a challenge because many jobs do not lend themselves well to quantitative measures. We can help.
Results-based measures focus employee effort and energy on the critical outcomes that the job must produce, rather than on activities. And most managers realize that the behavior you measure is behavior you will get.

Case Example
As part of an organization re-structuring, a government entity determined that relevant performance measures were needed to focus employee efforts on team outcomes as well as individual results. In addition, upper management needed to be convinced that the new approach was cost-effective and successful in achieving its goals. As part of the team launch, each of the new teams participated in a three-day off-site workshop to review the new mission, identify value-added results, and create team and indivdual measures and tracking plans.
A mixed group of individuals from each team reviewed the measures for consistency and alignment with organization goals. Management reported a significant rise in productivity and observed a high level of commitment and cohesion within and across teams.
